Image of a Dream - A Solo Work of Sleepless Nights

Image of a Dream addresses and explores sleep, dreams and difficulty falling asleep through music and drama. The work is a solo version, compiled by Lotta Aakko, of the duo work Images of a Dream (actress singer Lotta Aakko and kantele artist Aurora Visa), which premiered in 2025. In the solo work Image of a Dream, traditional lullabies as well as songs composed by Aakko and dream-themed poetry lead the audience to nocturnal moods and adventures on the border between sleep and wakefulness. Musical inspiration has been sought from lullaby tradition and folk music. The songs are accompanied by both a violin and a traditional Finnish instrument, five-string kantele.

For modern people, winding down and falling asleep doesn't necessarily happen in the blink of an eye, but this is a struggle humanity has faced throughout history. In the performance, the insomniac Tuiki seeks help for insomnia from both the depths of the internet and the old lullabies her grandma used to sing. Abstract dreams, relatable experiences of insomnia, and calming music will carry the listener to contemplate sleep and sleeplessness.

Come to relax <3
