Elina Mustonen performance, I, Elizabeth – autocrat in crisis, breaking boundaries between theatrical performance and the classical concert institution in a fresh way. The hugely popular performance is largely based on Elisabeth's own texts and documents.
Elizabeth I must sign the death warrant of her cousin Mary, Queen of Scots, and the crisis is not only personal but also political and religious. But how does the decision affect Elizabeth? How does she manage to justify it morally? How to make the decision seem like a necessity and the only right solution, above all to herself? Elizabeth is known to have been a talented musician and a great lover of music. In this performance, she seeks to resolve her inner conflict through music: how to be both a sensitive and emotional person, and at the same time a determined and ruthless leader?
