Handling natural materials up close – artisan Saija Lehtonen

Thu 2.7. klo 16.30
Suomen käsityön museo (Finnish Craft Museum)

At the lecture, the artisan Saija Lehtonen discusses the significance of using natural materials and hands-on work based on personal experiences. We delve into why it is wise to use locally sourced natural materials and preserve traditional knowledge, and what all this affects. Time is also reserved for discussion at the end of the lecture.

Saija Lehtonen is a visual artist and craftsperson from the middle of the forest, working in Karstula and Nokia. Lehtonen utilizes natural materials extensively in her work, and hands-on creation and old, even primitive, working methods are important to her. Ecology and knowledge of the origin of materials are essential.
