\nLecture: Handcrafted from Natural Materials Nearby \u2013 Craft Artist Saija Lehtonen<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the lecture, artisan Saija Lehtonen shares her personal experiences on the significance of using natural materials and working with one's hands. We will delve into why it's wise to use locally sourced natural materials and preserve traditional knowledge, and what all this impacts. Time for discussion is also reserved at the end of the lecture.<\/p>\n

Saija Lehtonen is a visual artist and craftsperson from the middle of the forest, working in Karstula and Nokia. Lehtonen utilizes natural materials extensively in her work, and hands-on creation and old, even primitive, working methods are important to her. Ecology and knowledge of the origin of materials are essential.<\/p>\n

From hunting to the sauna<\/strong> \u2013 Sami Repo<\/strong> 05\/30\/2026 \u2013 08\/23\/2026<\/p>\n

The journey of a thousand-kilogram spruce to the atelier, where the birch bark that grew next to the spruce is formed into a door handle and the spruce is placed next to a pine in a log wall. Traditional builder Sami Repo is bringing a whole smoke sauna to the street level of the Craft Museum of Finland. The sauna artwork's main theme is contrasts, where the large becomes small, and the millimeter-precise work of log carving is emphasized.<\/p>\n

Summer of Crafts<\/strong> 6.6.-23.8.2026<\/p>\n

Throughout the summer, the Finnish Craft Museum's Window Gallery will once again feature a selection of products from Finnish artisans, curated to capture the summer mood. The sales exhibition includes creators whose products are perfect for a Finnish summer, whether as gifts, for the cottage, for the home, or as souvenirs.<\/p>\n

Visakoivu - The Devil's Twisted Wood<\/strong> 25.4.\u201330.8.2026<\/p>\n

The Finnish Crafts Museum's summer exhibition, Burr Elm \u2013 Wood Squeezed by the Devil, offers a glimpse into one of Finland's most prized and enigmatic materials. Burr elm is a special type of wood whose story intertwines folklore, rare heredity, research, and new design possibilities. Its swirling and vibrant grain pattern has inspired admiration, appreciation, and beliefs for centuries.<\/p>\n

The Finnish National Costume Centre exhibition presents Karelian national costume culture through modern sportswear. The clothing collection by textile and fashion designer Lauri Greis draws inspiration from Karelian national costumes and, more broadly, from Finnish national costume culture. The exhibition also explores the Finnish relationship with clothing, and especially with the windbreaker, which evokes such strong emotions.<\/p>\n
