Pianist\u00a0<strong>Heikki Sarmanto<\/strong>\u00a0With a lineup of seven, the ensemble reflects the festival's rich jazz history \u2013 while also looking ahead.<\/p>\n<p>The concert combines old and new: familiar material is interpreted in a fresh way, including Finnish-language vocal lyrics. The evening will culminate in\u00a0<strong>Sarmanto&#x27;s new premiere dedicated to Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n Kes\u00e4<\/strong>. The first half is instrumental; the singers join in after the break.<\/p>\n<p>\"Kokoonpano\" refers to the 1970 Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 Workshop Band, which featured Aaltonen, Laine, and Sarmanto. The connection to Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 is deep: Sarmanto's debut album\u00a0<em>Flowers in the Water<\/em>\u00a0(1969) was recorded at the University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 at the time.
