The Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 Festival's closing concert in July will feature an exceptional lineup, with pianist and composer\u00a0Heikki Sarmanto<\/strong>\u00a0appears among the top names of Finnish jazz gathered with\u00a0Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 Workshop Band<\/strong> ! The concert program spans different eras and will feature the world premiere of Sarmanto\u2019s new composition dedicated to Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 Festival. This one-of-a-kind closing concert has been created entirely with Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 Festival in mind!<\/p>\n

The ensemble refers to the 1970 Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 Workshop Band and brings together several key figures of Finnish jazz from different decades. In addition to Sarmanto (piano), the band includes\u00a0Juki V\u00e4lipakka<\/strong>\u00a0(song),\u00a0Juhani Aaltonen\u00a0<\/strong>(flute)\u00a0Reino \u201cReiska\u201d Laine\u00a0<\/strong>(drums),\u00a0Jukka Eskola\u00a0<\/strong>Trumpets,\u00a0Eero Koivistoinen\u00a0<\/strong>(saxophone) and\u00a0Ulf \u201cUffe\u201d Krokfors<\/strong>\u00a0(bass). The average age of the seven-member lineup is 72 years.<\/p>\n

Heikki Sarmanto is one of the central figures of Finnish jazz, and he has been widely awarded throughout his career both in Finland and internationally. The \u201call stars\u201d lineup of the Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 Workshop Band includes other pioneers of Finnish jazz.<\/p>\n

The lineup features the multi-award-winning Juhani Aaltonen, one of the most iconic figures in Finnish jazz. He has also performed at Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n Kes\u00e4 several times alongside Sarmanto. Juki V\u00e4lipakka, who has often been voted Finland\u2019s best male jazz singer, is known for his broad musical expertise, and Reino \u201cReiska\u201d Laine, who turns 80 in July, is known for his work behind the drums with many different bands and artists, such as Olavi Virta and Vesa-Matti Loiri. The lineup also features Jukka Eskola, who has racked up numerous awards throughout his career and has appeared on hundreds of Finnish recordings. Eero Koivistoinen, who has achieved great international acclaim, is known for his compositions and his thrilling saxophone playing, and bassist Ulf \u201cUffe\u201d Krokfors has been an award-winning pioneer of free jazz for decades.<\/p>\n

Belvedere offers a wide variety of caf\u00e9 items and serves alcohol. Ilokivi and Piato are open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., serving both breakfast and lunch.<\/p>\n
