Opening concert: Olli Mustonen & Jyväskylä Sinfonia
70 Years of Culture and Enlightenment – Jyväskylä Festival and Jyväskylä Sinfonia Celebrate Together!
This summer marks the 70th anniversary of Jyväskylä Festival, the longest-running culture festival in the Nordic countries. This year, the festival, known for its creative fusion of art and science, revolves around the theme of enlightenment. The celebratory atmosphere kicks off right at the opening concert, where the stage will be shared by Jyväskylä Sinfonia, which is also celebrating its 70th anniversary.
From the very beginning, Jyväskylä Festival has been a platform for bold thinking, culture, and dialogue. The opening concert continues this tradition by seamlessly connecting history, the present, and the future.
This unique joint concert features internationally acclaimed pianist Olli Mustonen as both soloist and conductor. The evening begins with Triptych, a piece composed by Mustonen himself. The program also includes Varjoista laulujen varhain, a new work by Aulis Sallinen, who is celebrating his 90th birthday. This piece was commissioned by four Finnish orchestras. The concert concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 ”Pastoral”, a nature-inspired masterpiece that transports the audience to a summer landscape filled with flowing streams, birdsong, and a festive spirit.
The opening concert will be held in the Encore Hall of Jyväskylä Paviljonki on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 18:00. Tickets will go on sale at all Lippupiste channels and outlets on Friday, February 14, at 09:00. Links to the sales channels can always be found most easily on our website.
